Something’s Cooking… And Something’s Coming

Hello July

Walls Down, Roots Deepening: The Kitchen Is Coming Along

Something extraordinary is happening at Van Ness Recovery House—and it’s about more than tiles, plumbing, or shiny new appliances.

Thanks to a generous $350,000 grant from The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation, our historic kitchen is undergoing a full renovation. Construction is in full swing, and we’re thrilled to share what’s been accomplished so far:

-Walls have come down, making space for a more open, functional design.

-Electrical and plumbing systems have been largely updated and installed.

-Drywall is going up, marking the beginning of the final construction stages.

-The laundry and linen area, formerly tucked into the kitchen, has been relocated upstairs and is nearly complete.

-New washer and dryer units have been delivered and are awaiting installation.

We’re still on track for a Labor Day reveal, and we can’t wait to welcome residents into a kitchen that nourishes more than meals—it nurtures new beginnings.

We’re not just renovating a kitchen. We’re building the future of Van Ness Recovery House—one room, one relationship, one act of generosity at a time.

The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation’s incredible investment jumpstarted this transformation. Now, we’re asking you to help us keep building—not just facilities, but a community of support that will carry our mission forward for the next 35 years and beyond.

Next Up: The Dining Room

The dining room is where our residents come together for nourishment, connection, and healing. As we prepare to renovate this vital gathering space, we invite you to help us build it—physically, emotionally, and financially.

When you donate, you’re not just funding a renovation. You’re helping build a stronger organization, a more sustainable future, and a deeper community of recovery that lasts for generations.

Join us as we continue to build—not just walls, but a legacy of recovery and resilience.

Calling all VNRH Alumni: We’re Getting Back in the Arena

This past April, something powerful happened.

A determined team of Van Ness Recovery House and La Fuente alumni took on the Spartan Race—and they did more than just cross the finish line. With around 15 participants, they raised an incredible $26,000 to support our Capital Campaign.

Their strength and unity didn’t just move mountains—they built something tangible. The funds they raised helped cover the renovation of our ADA-accessible bathroom. And now, thanks to their effort, that essential space bears their name—a lasting symbol of what recovery, community, and purpose can achieve together.

So naturally, we’re doing it again. This time on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Angel Stadium

The event is being organized by alumni, for alumni—a full-circle moment of giving back and stepping up. Whether you’re ready to climb ropes, leap fire pits, or just show your support, there’s room for you on Team Van Ness.

Want to Join the Team? We’d love to have you.
